The Women at GSTV Who Advocate for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At GSTV, being part of the team means we encourage and challenge our team members to grow personally and professionally. For Women’s History Month, we are highlighting team members that rise to that challenge every day and advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace and beyond. We asked the women of our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee what they think the importance of DEI is and how they put those thoughts into action.

Aachal Thapa, Software Engineer

DEI is important to me because it ensures that every individual has equal opportunities to thrive and contribute, no matter who they are or where they come from. Inside GSTV, I actively participate in any DEI-related activities and collaborate with colleagues to implement initiatives that celebrate diversity and address any barriers to inclusion. Outside of GSTV, I engage in community outreach programs and volunteer work to promote diversity and equity. Additionally, I serve as the President of Nepali Women+ in Computing, advocating for underrepresented individuals. I am proud to be a part of the DEI committee because it's a chance for me to actively contribute to creating a more inclusive and equitable environment. I hope to make a tangible difference in people's lives by breaking down barriers and championing fairness for all.

Aisha Shackelford, QA Manager

As a member of the DEI Committee, I have been part of bringing diverse voices to speak to our wider GSTV team.  This past year, I had the honor of inviting Khary Turner, an esteemed leader in our community, serving as Executive Director of The Coleman A. Young Foundation and Community Engagement Leader, to address our company during our Juneteenth celebration. Witnessing such a renowned figure share their insights was truly inspiring. The passion and conviction with which he spoke brought joy not only to me but to all in attendance. His words resonated deeply, leaving a lasting impact on everyone present. I eagerly anticipate continuing to cultivate diversity, equity, and inclusion within our organization by collaborating with dynamic individuals like Khary who embody these values in both their personal lives and professional endeavors.

Noelle Dong, Sr. Director, Brand Strategy & Communication

My own experiences of being a third-generation Chinese American woman has fueled my lifelong interest and participation in DEI and social justice work. Being part of the DEI committee at GSTV has given me the opportunity to help plan and facilitate important conversations and dialogue that recognize that our wider team is made up of our collective identities and experiences and by that. And at its heart, to me, that‘s what DEI is–providing space to feel seen and heard by valuing and acknowledging the vastly different and rich experiences that make us–in our communities and the world at large. DEI work creates channels and gives voice to actively help others feel seen and heard by celebrating and respecting our diversity, providing space for inclusion, while also working to bring awareness and find solutions for societal and systemic inequity.

Paulina Saracco, Digital Marketing Manager

As a newer member of our DEI Committee, I have had the pleasure of learning from my fellow members about what function DEI serves at our company. For me, advocating for diversity and inclusion has been about providing learning opportunities and safe spaces for folks to voice their opinions and ideas. DEI provides a wonderful opportunity to find community whether it be through identity or common interests. Through my work on the committee, I work to create the spaces I have benefited from in my career journey.

Viji Karthikeyan, Senior Application Engineer

DEI reflects my belief in creating spaces where every individual, regardless of their background or identity, feels valued, heard, and empowered to thrive. Within GSTV, we advocate for DEI through various channels. Internally, I actively participate in DEI initiatives, and getting to know my colleagues with diverse backgrounds. Additionally, we celebrate and create awareness about many events including Black History Month, Women’s History Month, and more. The external speaker for these events brings us a lot of positive inspiration. Externally, it helps me to connect with my diverse people in fellow neighborhood and cherish across the different cultures. I am so happy I can stay connected with people from different backgrounds and get together to create community and a strong team.
